Paper Flower Hair Piece for a NYE Bride

I’m so delighted to share with you a few snaps from one of my recent Real Weddings. The bride originally got in touch with me through my sister company Little Bear Cakery about a naked wedding cake but after seeing my new Paper Petal & Wild projects, decided to commission me to make her a paper flower hair piece as well! Huge thanks to Debs Ivelja for providing these beautiful images. Debs is a new photographer to me but she has a stunning portfolio including some enviable wild and scenic shots. I strongly suggest you head over to her website for a browse here!

The lovely couple were married at Islington Town Hall, one of my favourite London registry office venues, on New Year’s Eve.

As the couple live in Cairo, the majority of their wedding planning was done over the internet with the final pieces slotting together just a few weeks before the wedding.

I chatted with the bride over email to plan the cake and decide on the design for the paper flower hair piece. As she was unsure of types of flowers and exact colours, we decided that the inspiration for the hair piece should come from her stunning Laure de Sagazan wedding dress. I was immediately drawn to the four petal design in the lace and so created a collection of seven four-petal flowers. I then added some delicate gold leaves to tie in with the finer lace detailing and to add a little NYE festive touch.

Keeping the colours neutral kept it simple and elegant and meant the bride’s colourful bouquet really stood out.

After all of the online planning, I then met the bride the week before the wedding to confirm the finer cake details, fit the hairpiece and of course sample some cake!

The reception was held at St Mark’s Church Hall which is a fantastic venue space in Dalston. Despite being only a few miles down the road from my base in Hackney, this was a new venue to me as they currently only hold a few wedding receptions there per year but with a view to booking more this year.

The couple opted for a rather unique cake topper of some Egyptian Gods, Thoth and Sekhmet (I think!)  as a nod to their Cairo roots.

The decor had a lovely DIY feel – kept simple with just a few colourful lanterns hung from the beams.

Are you interested in a paper flower hair piece or flower crown? If so, do get in touch here and I’d be happy to discuss a bespoke design with you 🙂
